Having children does not make us parents!

Why do some people believe that having children makes them a parent? Why do some people believe that having children makes them a parent?

Being a parent is a high profile and demanding career choice that requires excellent people management skills, a profound understanding of those less experienced than ourselves and the wisdom to know when to speak and when to keep our mouths shut!

It is a full time position working very long hours with few holidays and no sick leave. Sleepless nights, endless worry and periods of extreme stress are some of the hazardous aspects of this incredibly challenging vocation. There is no formal training and no "How To..." manual.

In order to achieve success, it is imperative we remain focussed at all times, to see the truth no matter how difficult it may be and have the courage to admit when we are wrong - which we will be sometimes.

We must be prepared for absolutely anything - especially the unpredictable and unimaginable - and be willing to accept full responsibility for our actions. We must lead by example and promise the highest possible level of dedication along with limitless patience, tolerance, compassion and unconditional love.

If we can provide all this, are 100% committed to our children and EXPECT NOTHING IN RETURN for our efforts, we can wear our 'parent' badge with pride and we will enjoy job satisfaction every day.

If not, we are simply 'procreators' and, no matter how much we stamp our feet, we've already had all the satisfaction we're ever gonna get!
